Eight All-Star nominations for us

The list of nominations for the 2021 football All-Stars have been announced. Tyrone, as expected, lead the way with 15 nominees while we have eight players shortlisted. The eight Mayo players nominated are Rob Hennelly, Padraig O’Hora, Lee Keegan, Paddy Durcan, Stephen Coen, Mattie Ruane, Tommy Conroy and Ryan O’Donoghue. Lee is, along with Tyrone’s Conor Meyler and Ciaran McGeary […]

Oisín lands YFOTY award as Cillian misses out on FOTY prize

The All-Stars awards show has just concluded on RTÉ2 and, from our perspective, there were no surprises with how the two Footballer of the Year awards went. In the Young Footballer of the Year category we couldn’t lose – probably just as well, seeing how we got shafted in the All-Stars – as all three players on the shortlist came […]

Just two All-Stars for us

The 2020 All-Stars awards will be presented tomorrow night, with the ceremony live on RTE2 (throw-in 6.30pm), but ahead of that the football All-Star team for the year just gone was unveiled this morning. The All-Stars forever see bizarre selections. This year they’ve outdone themselves as our run to the All-Ireland final and a creditable display in the final yielded […]

Chris Barrett checks out

On the same day that he was named as an All-Star nominee for the fifth time, Chris Barrett today announced his retirement as an inter-county player. He’s the fifth Mayo player to do so since the start of the year and the official announcement from Mayo GAA is here. Chris Barrett was another one of the famed Class of 2006, […]

Twelve All-Star nominations for us

The All-Star list for 2020 was announced this morning and our run to December’s final sees us well recognised on it. In total we’ve twelve players nominated for the All-Star team, we’ve one player in the running for Footballer of the Year and, with all three nominees coming from within our ranks, we’re guaranteed to win the Young Footballer of […]

Tom takes his leave

It’s said that bad news comes in threes. If so there was some inevitability to the announcement today that Tom Parsons has become the third Mayo player in as many days to announce his retirement from the inter-county game. Tom’s decision to call time on his days as a Mayo player isn’t enormously surprising, even if his most recent appearance […]

David Clarke retires from the fray

David Clarke today became the second Mayo player in as many days to announce his retirement from the inter-county scene. In doing so, the 37 year-old Ballina Stephenites clubman brings down the curtain on an incredible twenty-year stint as an inter-county player. The news was confirmed by Mayo GAA earlier on today (here). The announcement included a statement from the […]

Connacht crowns for Kilmaine and Tooreen

Meat Loaf reckoned that two out of three should never be considered a bad return. So it was this weekend with Mayo teams involved in Connacht club finals, as Kilmaine and Tooreen claimed provincial titles while The Neale came up short in their Connacht decider. Kilmaine’s match – the Connacht Junior club final against Sligo’s St Michael’s – was the […]
