The one-point loss to Kerry at MacHale Park wasn’t, I’m afraid, the county’s only loss in competitive action today. We also went under in the two other games we played this afternoon.
The women’s football team were beaten by Cork in their NFL LGFA Division One match at Mallow. Leading by two points at the break, Mayo found the going much tougher in the second half as Cork ran out winners by 1-12 to 1-4. A full match report on the game is here.
It’s been a really tough League campaign this year for the county’s hurlers. This afternoon at Páirc Tailteann their final NHL Division 2A game saw them lose again but this time it was a very narrow defeat, as a late surge by Meath carried them to a 1-17 to 0-18 victory.
The loss sees the hurlers finish bottom of Division 2A and so they’re relegated back down to Division 2B for next year.
