In these sports-starved pandemic days, the only sporting action that’s on television is of the golden oldie kind. In that vein, TG4’s long-running Laochra Gael programme – this is its 18th series – has featured loads of prominent stars of yesteryear. This week the show features the county’s own David Brady.
The larger-than-life Ballina Stephenites player appeared in four All-Ireland finals at inter-county level. Those deciders all ended in defeat, of course, but in 2005 he tasted national success when he was part of the Stephenites team that claimed the All-Ireland club football title.
David’s story is told through the eyes of his brother Ger, as well as former Mayo captain Alan Dillon, former Galway footballer Seán Óg de Paor, broadcaster Seán Bán Breathnach and Irish Independent journalist Vincent Hogan.
This episode of Laochra Gael airs on TG4 this coming Thursday (2nd April) at 9.30pm and it’ll be repeated on Sunday (5th April) at 4.55pm.
