All change again for Sunday

James Horan has announced the starting fifteen to play Leitrim in our FBD clash at Ballinamore this coming Sunday (throw-in 2 pm) and, just in case anyone was feeling comfortable, he’s made thirteen changes to the side that started against Roscommon last Sunday.  Only Kenneth O’Malley in goals and Brian Benson at corner forward are retained from the team for that one with the fifteen starting against Leitrim lining out as follows:

Mayo (FBD League v Leitrim, 30/1/2011): Kenneth O’Malley (Ballinrobe); Cathal Hallinan (Ballintubber), Alan Feeney (Castlebar Mitchels), Richie Feeney (Castlebar Mitchels); Chris Barrett (Belmullet), Ger Cafferkey (Ballina Stephenites), James Burke (Ballymun Kickhams, Dublin); Jason Gibbons (Ballintubber), James Moran (Burrishoole); Aidan Campbell (Swinford), Austin O’Malley (St. Vincent’s, Dublin), Andy Moran (Ballghaderreen, captain); Aidan Kilcoyne (Knockmore), Alan Freeman (Aghamore), Brian Benson (Crossmolina).

A good number of the above did, of course, feature in the opening FBD match against GMIT a few weeks back and so, by my reckoning, the only lads who are starting a match for the first time this year on Sunday are Richie Feeney, Jason Gibbons and Alan Freeman.  Interesting to see Ger Cafferkey starting at 6 rather than 3 (some would say he’s far better suited to centre-back) and interesting too to see Austie getting yet another chance to shine at centre-forward.  It’s also good to see James Burke – who, like Austie, plays his club football up here in the capital – getting another run-out at wing-back where hopefully he’ll do as well as he did against GMIT.

  1. I don’t think he’s been handed the armband for the whole year just yet but this will be his second time doing it this year. Maybe there’ll be an announcement on this front ahead of the Down game.

  2. great to see alan freeman back. need to see some big lads up the middle and stop depending on one lad doing all the scoring. all the forwards are capable of scoring and the backs are playing where they are naturally best placed. all good so far.
