Any Other Craic? – Mayo News Football Podcast 2022 E8

With four rounds of National League matches already played, there’s a break in the action this coming weekend ahead of Mayo’s next assignment, a tough trip to Tralee to face Kerry. In this episode of the Mayo News Football Podcast, specially extended for our club members on Patreon, Mike sits down with Ed McGreal and Ger Flanagan for a general chat about a few Mayo GAA-related topics. We’re calling this our ‘Any Other Craic?’ show.

Among the topics covered are Mayo’s good start in this year’s Division One campaign, despite having no designated, regular training ground right now; the likelihood of MacHale Park being ready to host the Mayo/Galway game at the end of April; how the county’s U20s are shaping up ahead of Championship and the new structures for the Senior club Football Leagues.

In our members’ clubhouse section at the end of the pod Mike and Ed chat about the players who are in and around the Mayo panel but who haven’t featured in the National League as yet.

  1. One player that was not mentioned in the podcast as players we have not seen was Conor McStay. I recall James name checking him a few weeks ago as injured and he could be an option in our half forward line if still involved with the panel.

However, i would think that any lad we haven’t seen before the Kildare game is unlikely to play any part in the Galway match day squad.

  2. Given the countdown to April 24, like most here I’m getting more worried about injuries. Primarily cillian, doc and mchale. In order to be making the 26 for that game, they’d need to be making the panel for the Kerry game or at worst the Tyrone game. Getting at least 2 into the panel would be a huge boost.

  3. I don’t recall hearing anything recently about Conor mcstay but towards the start of the league Kevin mcstay was on the rte podcast and mentioned how his nephew had broken into the Mayo squad, gotten an injury and how with the shortened season it would likely mean the end of his season.

I’m assuming it was Conor he was referring to. I took it to mean it was an injury that would likely mean he’d miss the league, and Kevin assuming that, without league time he wouldn’t break into the team but that’s my assumption.

  4. I saw Conor McStay in the Hyde with 2 other members of the extended panel. So he’s still involved.

  5. Is conal dempsey still on panel? What about Pearce Rutledge who was on bench vs Donegal?

  6. Anyone else struggling to access the discord chat groups for Patreon members of the pod?

  7. It’s looking like the Kerry game might have sold out online. If anyone can’t make that game and has a ticket going spare, they might let me know … asking for a friend!

  8. Just late looking for tickets for Kerry game. Could do with a few. If someone could message me. Thank you.
