I remember the final very well Mayo played some majestic football and Pat Glavey Aghamore Tim Snee Kilkelly and Tom Fitzgerald Ballyhaunis were all on the team and lived quite local to me . That is why i have fond memories of that great final .
some great players on them teams, they went on and won under 21 All Ireland Final in 1967 beating Kerry in a replay in Ballinasloe after a draw in Croke Park , with Willie McGee scoring 4 goals in replay , thus getting name of 4 goal McGee. That team was honoured before Connaught Final in Pearse Stadium in 2017, fifty years after winning it. but unfortunally never went on to lift Sam.
My late uncle Willie Loftus captained the successful under 21 team that lifted the cup in 67 having scored a crucial goal in the drawn final , sadly today is the second anniversary of his passing. Here’s hoping O’Shea gets to lift the cup tomorrow even if we can’t be there to see it.
