The group stage of the LGFA SFC Championship got underway this weekend. We’re in Group 1 with Armagh and Laois and these two counties met today in the opening round.
Armagh won this afternoon’s encounter at O’Moore Park by 3-12 to 2-8. The Orchard County – who lined out without their star turn Aimee Mackin, though she joined the fray as a second half substitute – were always to the fore, with centre-forward Aoife McCoy bagging 2-1 as they won by seven points. Match report on this game is here.
We play Armagh away in the second round next weekend. That game has a 3.30pm throw-in tomorrow week but, as yet, no venue has been confirmed for it.
Armagh, who earlier this year won the NFL Division 2 title, will be looking to seal their place in the All-Ireland quarter-final then while we’ll be looking to build on our Connacht title success by claiming a win that would leave us well placed to advance in this year’s Championship.
