Cora to the fore as Carnacon are champs once again

The ladies All-Ireland club championship senior football final took place in Ballymahon earlier today and it resulted in victory for Mayo’s Carnacon who defeated Na Fianna of Dublin by 2-12 to 2-4. RTÉ’s match report on today’s decider is here.

The Dublin girls were appearing in their first ever national decider at this level but it must have been a daunting experience for them to come up against a side with such a pedigree at this level, one that, according to club founder and manager Jimmy Corbett, has the capability to “put absolutely everything they have into every game”.

In that interview earlier this week Corbett paid special praise to Carnacon’s star turn, the “incredible” Cora Staunton, saying that “she just wants to win everything that she takes part in”. Cora certainly proved that point today, bagging a 1-9 haul as she and her teammates stormed to their first All-Ireland club title since 2008 and their fourth in all since they won it first back in 2002.
