Team announcements for this weekend’s matches

It’s clearly team announcement day, with details published today of the three Mayo teams in action this weekend. I’m in a bit of a dash myself at the minute so I’m going to do this one the short way. Details of the playing panel for this evening’s Connacht U17 clash with Sligo at James Stephens Park are as follows: This […]

Upcoming fixtures + club Championship draws

There are fixtures involving the county this weekend but there are also other matches coming up in the weeks ahead so it’s worthwhile setting out what’s on when. Before that, though, it’s only right to report on two Mayo matches played this evening. These were in Masters football and, at the other end of the age spectrum, U16 ladies football. […]

Hurlers should be allowed to play at MacHale Park

A bit of an unseemly row has erupted between Mayo GAA and its Hurling Board over the hurlers’ access to MacHale Park. They’re due to play a Round 4 Christy Ring Cup match against neighbours Sligo next Saturday, a match fixed for James Stephens Park in Ballina. The Hurling Board requested that this tie and their subsequent clash with Derry […]

Hurling team named for London clash

The county’s hurlers are in action over in Ruislip tomorrow, as they take on London in Round 3 of the Christy Ring Cup. After their win on the road over Wicklow last time out, Derek Walsh’s charges will be aiming to keep this run going against the Exiles. Throw-in at McGovern Park is 4pm tomorrow and here’s the match day […]

This week’s matches

It’s another busy week of Mayo matches, with five Championship games in all taking place across three codes between now and Sunday. The action starts tomorrow and in the first match there’s significant silverware on offer. This is the Connacht U20 final against Sligo which throws in at Markievicz Park at 6pm. The match is being streamed live by TG4 […]

Hurlers off the mark in Christy Ring Cup

After last weekend’s opening round shellacking by Kildare, Mayo’s hurlers travelled to Aughrim more in hope than in confidence this afternoon for their Round 2 meeting with Wicklow in the Christy Ring Cup. The long trip was, though, a worthwhile one as the Westerners came away with an 0-26 to 2-10 win over the Garden County. This year has been […]

The weekend’s results

It was three wins out of for matches for the various Mayo teams who were in action over the weekend. There’s only place to start and that’s with the county’s camogie team whose star continues to rise. This afternoon they claimed the county’s first ever Camogie League title, when they enjoyed a decisive 2-14 to 1-6 win over Wicklow in […]

The weekend’s matches

The weekend is upon us already and there are a number of matches involving the county taking place tomorrow and Sunday, in ladies football, hurling and camogie. Here’s a quick run-down of what’s on. Starting tomorrow where in women’s football there’s an LGFA Connacht U18 Championship Round 3 game between Mayo and Galway, throwing in at Caherlistrane GAA club at […]
