Who was our Player of the Year?

Here we are, with August not even half-over yet, and the year’s inter-county action is already a distant, fading memory. Before we forget completely about our 2022 inter-county year, however, there’s one job that needs to be done. Now, with the management appointment process rumbling on at a glacially slow pace and chat in the comments already veering towards topics […]

Three All-Stars plus YFOTY award for us

The GAA/GPA Gaelic football All-Star awards for 2021 were unveiled on RTÉ a bit earlier on this evening. The football awards had none of the shock value of their hurling equivalents in what was an uncontroversial and largely fair selection. We came away with three All-Stars. Lee Keegan picked up his fifth award, cementing his place as one of the […]

Eight All-Star nominations for us

The list of nominations for the 2021 football All-Stars have been announced. Tyrone, as expected, lead the way with 15 nominees while we have eight players shortlisted. The eight Mayo players nominated are Rob Hennelly, Padraig O’Hora, Lee Keegan, Paddy Durcan, Stephen Coen, Mattie Ruane, Tommy Conroy and Ryan O’Donoghue. Lee is, along with Tyrone’s Conor Meyler and Ciaran McGeary […]

Poll: who was our Player of the Year for 2021?

With the inter-county season now behind us it’s time to consider who was the Mayo GAA Blog Player of the Year for 2021. To compile the shortlist for the Player of the Year award I use the […]

Looking ahead

Right, 72 hours or so have passed since the final whistle was blown in this year’s All-Ireland final – and, with it, time called once again on our hopes of lifting the Sam Maguire – and the world has kept on turning. As it always must, as it always will. Fair play to the lot of you, you’ve kept the […]

Oisín lands YFOTY award as Cillian misses out on FOTY prize

The All-Stars awards show has just concluded on RTÉ2 and, from our perspective, there were no surprises with how the two Footballer of the Year awards went. In the Young Footballer of the Year category we couldn’t lose – probably just as well, seeing how we got shafted in the All-Stars – as all three players on the shortlist came […]

Just two All-Stars for us

The 2020 All-Stars awards will be presented tomorrow night, with the ceremony live on RTE2 (throw-in 6.30pm), but ahead of that the football All-Star team for the year just gone was unveiled this morning. The All-Stars forever see bizarre selections. This year they’ve outdone themselves as our run to the All-Ireland final and a creditable display in the final yielded […]
