U17s dig out good win

I was out tonight and so I didn’t see the U17s’ Connacht Championship match earlier on against Roscommon and, of course, it’s too late now to go into it in any detail. The win is worth mentioning, though, as it was one chiselled out in the face of some adversity. The opening half in this evening’s game saw Roscommon race […]

U17 match against Roscommon to be streamed

Friday evening is U17 Connacht Championship evening and, following their successful opener against Leitrim last week, our lads take on Roscommon tomorrow evening in Round 2 of the round-robin phase. The match is fixed for Dr Hyde Park and throw-in is 7pm. It is, of course, an all-ticket match and tickets have to be purchased in advance, which you can […]

A gawk at Galway

We’re now just a week out from the Galway game so it’s definitely time to turn the beams in the direction of this one. Just seven days on from Easter Sunday, our meeting with Galway in the quarter-final of the Conancht SFC is a pivotal Championship encounter for both of us. With the back door restored this year, defeat isn’t […]

Hurling for Hope hits the road this morning

The Hurling for Hope fundraising initiative, which is the brainchild of Keith Higgins and some of his friends from Ballyhaunis GAA, has been doing great work in recent weeks. Already they’ve raised over €68,000 for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and this morning they’re setting off from Castlebar on their main fundraising event. […]

Four Mayo matches on this weekend

This coming weekend is set to be another busy one for teams from the county, with four matches set to take place. One of these takes place on Saturday while the other three are on Sunday. The game on Saturday involves the U20 footballers who play their second match in the Leo Murphy Cup. This one’s away to Derry, at […]

Sligo capture Connacht Minor crown

The full-time whistle was blown a short while ago at Dr Hyde Park in the Connacht MFC final. This confirmed a sensational outcome to this year’s provincial Championship at U17 level, as Sligo beat favourites Roscommon by 0-19 to 1-11. It’s the Magpies’ first Connacht Minor football title since 1968 and only their third one ever. With Roscommon having beaten […]

First half goal glut does it for young Rossies

Mayo’s Minor Championship campaign started and finished after little over an hour’s football at Dr Hyde Park this evening. Roscommon banged in four first half goals in this Connacht MFC quarter-final and with that buffer they were able to see out the win with relative ease. They beat our lads by 4-13 to 2-12 at the finish. I was otherwise […]

Minor team to face Rossies named

Earlier on today we named our Minor (U17) team to play Roscommon in the Connacht MFC quarter-final at Dr Hyde Park tomorrow evening (throw-in 7pm). Here it is: Mayo (Connacht MFC quarter-final v Roscommon, 23/7/2021): Tiernan Burke (Kiltimagh); Lorcan Silke (Westport), Jack Walsh (Burrishoole), Brendan Collins (Ballina Stephenites); Cathal Corless (Davitts), Jack Ferguson (Swinford), Conal Dawson (Westport); Seán Morahan (Castlebar […]

U20s rumbled by the Rossies

A week is a long time, it would appear, in U20 football. Just eight evenings on from our shootout win over defending All-Ireland champions Galway, our U20s were tonight comprehensively turned over by a hungry, hard-working Roscommon team. We were on top early on but failed to register that dominance on the scoreboard and when the Rossies took over they […]
