Connacht U17 final is on Bank Holiday Monday

We’re absent – yet again, for the fifth time in the last seven years – from Sunday’s Nestor Cup decider but the county’s U17 team have already booked their place in their Connacht final. This game has, according to this week’s Mayo News (paper and digital variants), now been confirmed for Monday, 6th June with throw-in set for 7.30pm. What’s […]

Three from three for U17s

Mayo’s Connacht U17 Championship campaign continued in a positive vein this evening. In a high-scoring encounter at James Stephens Park in Ballina, Seán Deane’s charges made it three wins from three outings as they overcame Sligo by 2-21 to 3-10. This latest win secures Mayo’s place in the knockout stages of the provincial Championship. They’re guaranteed at least a place […]

U20s self-destruct as Sligo claim historic first provincial title

With just eight minutes of normal time left in this evening’s Connacht U20 decider at Markievicz Park, we looked all but home and hosed. Frank Irwin had just stroked over a free to stretch our lead to five points and, with Sligo reduced to fourteen players, their hopes of a first ever provincial title at this level looked all but […]

Two changes for U20s this evening

The Connacht U20 decider against Sligo throws in at Markievicz Park at 6pm this evening and a bit earlier on we named our starting team and subs for it. Here’s the match day panel we’ve announced. Mayo (Connacht U20 final v Sligo, 20/4/2022): Bryan O’Flaherty (Islandeady); Alfie Morrison (Louisburgh), Ruairí Keane (Mayo Gaels), Conal Dawson (Westport); Fenton Kelly (Davitts), Donnacha […]

Connacht Championship starts with a bang

Easter Sunday it may have been but today saw the first shots fired in this year’s Connacht SFC. The matches in question took place not only outside the province but also outside the country and both turned out to be extremely competitive tussles. Andy Moran took his Leitrim charges over to McGovern Park in Ruislip where they faced London this […]

Connacht U20 final refixed for Markievicz Park

Common sense has, thankfully, broken out in relation to the venue for the Connacht U20 final. In fairness to them, Connacht GAA moved rapidly this evening to sort the issue and they’ve done it in the right way. The final will now go ahead at Markievicz Park on Wednesday evening, where throw-in will be at the earlier time of 6pm. […]

Sligo threaten to boycott Connacht U20 final

RTÉ are reporting (here) that Sligo GAA have informed the Connacht Council of their decision not to take part in next Wednesday evening’s Connacht U20 decider against Mayo if the Council insists on the final being played at the Connacht Centre of Excellence in Bekan. The U20 final is scheduled to throw in at Bekan at 7.30pm on Wednesday. TG4 […]

Too close for comfort in Carrick

Mayo’s U20s are through to the Connacht final – where they’ll face Sligo – but what was, midway through the second half, heading towards a routine, unspectacular victory veered off in a very different direction, with the result that we only emerged victors over Leitrim by a single point. We eventually scraped through this evening’s semi-final on a scoreline of […]
