Mayo GAA news, views and over a century of results

122 years now in the results archive

A late November’s day is a good one as any to do a bit of digital gardening and, in that spirit, I’ve now added our results for this year to the archive here on the blog. Including 2023 (here), the results archive, which is also fully searchable, at this stage runs to 122 years. The landing page for the results […]

U17 and U20 management teams announced

At the County Board meeting tonight, new managers were unveiled for the county’s U17 and U20 teams. At U17 level, former Senior players Tom Reilly (Castlebar Mitchels) and David Heaney (Swinford) have been appointed as joint managers. Joining them on the ticket are Ciaran McDonald (Crossmolina Deel Rovers) who will be Head Coach, along with selectors Pat Clarke (Bohola Moy […]

Seán Deane steps away as U17 manager

Mayo GAA announced this morning that Seán Deane has stepped away from the position of Mayo U17 manager, having completed a three-year term in the position. In his three seasons in charge, the Mayo U17s won back-to-back Connacht MFC titles, with last year’s crop making it all the way to the All-Ireland final where unfortunately they lost out to Galway […]

Sunday match reports

A good bit later than I’d planned, due to a variety of reasons, including the hurling, but I think yesterday’s matches merit a post on the coverage of them. Plus it’s an excuse to give an airing to that wonderful photo above of our newly-crowned All-Ireland champions. We have to start with yesterday’s LGFA U14 Platinum All-Ireland final in which […]

Minors’ run ended by Monaghan

The county’s Minors were well beaten by Monaghan today in the All-Ireland MFC quarter-final at Páirc Seán MacDiarmada in Carrick-on-Shannon. It was a match in which they never really got a proper foothold at any stage and the Farney lads ran out deserving 1-15 to 1-8 winners. Maybe the writing was on the wall today even before the two teams […]

Tomorrow’s matches

There are three matches of interest tomorrow, all of great importance in different ways. Let’s start with the one in which there’s an All-Ireland title on offer. This is the LGFA U14 Platinum All-Ireland final, in which Mayo are up against Cork. The game throws in at Nenagh tomorrow afternoon at 3.30pm. The last time the county won this title […]

LGFA and Minor fixtures confirmed

The GAA are still resolutely refusing to show their hand on when and where the Round 3 fixtures in the All-Ireland SFC group stage will be played but the dates for our two LGFA All-Ireland SFC group stage matches were confirmed yesterday and so too today were details of our Minor All-Ireland quarter-final against Monaghan. In the LGFA Championship we’re […]
