Andy takes charge in Leitrim

It was confirmed earlier on today that Andy Moran has been appointed as the new manager of Leitrim. The two-time All-Star and 2017 Footballer of the Year succeeds Terry Hyland in the role. The official announcement of Andy’s appointment is here. Joining Andy’s backroom team in the Ridge County is his Ballaghaderreen co-manager Mike Solan who takes on the role […]

A week ’till Sunday

So, it appears pretty much certain that the resumption of inter-county action will happen next weekend. For a brief period last Thursday it looked as if the GAA might be having second thoughts about playing out the remaining fixtures in the National League – a development reported on that day by the Irish Examiner – but this was quickly scotched […]

JJ Cribbin RIP

The death was announced yesterday of former Mayo footballer JJ Cribbin. A native of Ballyhaunis, Fr Cribbin was Parish Priest of Milltown in Galway. He died yesterday at Mayo University Hospital following an illness. JJ Cribbin was a talented forward who tasted national success with the Green and Red at both underage and senior level. Ordained as a priest in […]

County Convention reports, U21B action and the return of the podcast

Photo: @MayoGAA The annual County Convention was on last weekend and I said then that I’d post details here of the Convention report and accounts once they’d been published. They now have so here they are (pdf) – Convention Report, Financial Accounts. Plenty to go through there over the Festive season. If paperwork doesn’t do it for you, though, you might […]

Claremorris claim U21 crown + Convention highlights

Photo: @MayoGAA It’s proving to be a very quiet December from a Mayo GAA point of view – this is the first post I’ve done here since late November – but two events this weekend merit a mention. The first was last night’s rip-roaring U21A football championship final between Claremorris and Westport played in biblically awful weather conditions at MacHale […]

116 years and counting

Every year once the action concludes another year of Mayo GAA results gets added to the archive here on the site. The results for 2017 have now been placed alongside the 115 years already there, the matches played this year now forming part of the rich tapestry that is the story of inter-county football in Mayo. 2017 saw twenty matches […]

The rest of the weekend’s action

Photo: @officialgaa The main focus for us this weekend is, understandably, on MacHale Park tomorrow afternoon and the match that’ll determine our League status for next year. It’s not the only match on this weekend, though, and there were a few games of note that took place today. What better place to start than at Croke Park? It was at HQ […]

U21s gunned down by Galway

Photo: @mayonewssport The county’s reign as Connacht and All-Ireland U21 football champions is over, following this evening’s 2-13 to 1-10 defeat to Galway at Tuam in the Connacht semi-final. By all accounts, the young Tribesmen were full value for their victory and were well on top all evening. They weren’t, however, able to translate this dominance fully onto the scoreboard […]
