As the county prepares for another year of football action, it’s in the knowledge that the team will take the field without a number of players who have served Mayo with distinction in recent times. One of these is the 2017 All-Star defender Chris Barrett and in this episode of the Mayo News football podcast Chris sits down for an in-depth chat with fellow Belmullet man Billy Joe Padden.
In a wide-ranging interview, Chris speaks candidly with Billy Joe about a number of issues that have touched on his playing career with Mayo, including the decision he took in January to retire from inter-county football. He provides a fascinating insight into the mindset and culture within the Mayo dressing-room and he also gives his thoughts on why the all-conquering Dublin team have proven so hard to beat. He also looks back on growing up in Belmellet, reflecting on the journey he took to become a football All-Star and one of the county’s finest defenders of this generation.

Great Podcast lads well done it all involved. Chris comes across very well and I believe he will be very hard to replace. BJ is a great interviewer with another great interview under his belt. Hope we see him on Mayo GAA TV later this year
Chris
Honest on and off the pitch.
Mayo forever
Excellent podcast. Perfect length for the run I listened to it on as well!
It was great to hear his confidence in that the young backs coming through would step in for himself and Keith. Raging for games now. Can’t wait for the league to be back!
Fascinating podcast,really enjoyed that.
This is the best podcast around at the moment,I don’t remember Chris doing too many interviews over the years but he was completely open and honest there, great insight.
Very enjoyable listen , incisive details on marking /defending
Super interview. Always love the way he explains the art of defending. A future coach perhaps? I’d love to see it. A real leader, solid guy in every respect. Enjoy your retirement Chris.
