The focus is now back on inter-county action for the next while but the clubs haven’t gone away and this night week the draw for the 2019 club Championships will be held at MacHale Park.
The draws will be streamed live on the night from Castlebar by Mayo GAA TV, with coverage starting that evening at 8pm. There’s a short promo video to highlight the live streaming of the draws:
In other news, belated well done to the county’s hurlers who started their NHL Division 2A campaign last Sunday with a hard-fought 0-17 each draw with Meath at Tooreen. The hurlers are over in London for Round 2 this coming weekend, with their match against the Exiles throwing in at McGovern Park in Ruislip on Sunday at 12.30pm. Best of luck to them in that one.
The county’s ladies footballers are also getting ready to hit the road for another year’s action. Captained this year by Niamh Kelly, the ladies start their League Division One campaign this weekend with a home match against Tipperary. That match has been fixed for Swinford Amenity Park on Sunday, throw-in 2pm. Best of luck to them as well.
Finally, back to the lads. Paddy Durcan captained the team in last Saturday night’s match against Roscommon and there’s an interview piece with Paddy on the GAA website – here.
What are the odds on us being drawn in the same group as Mitchells again? If Ballinrobe and Cross hadn’t gone down to intermediate they would be the other two in our group as well probably!!!
What would we give for a bit of imaginative thinking in the draws, eg put all 16 teams into the hat unseeded and get a bit of excitement. After all only o e team can win each competition. Why do it always the same way??
