Club championship draw details

The draws for the latter stages of the various club championships were made last night, at which time it was also confirmed when all the matches would be played. Here are all the details (which are also available on the Mayo GAA website – here).

In the senior championship, The Moclair Cup holders Ballintubber will face Ballina Stephenites (who have, of course, won the county title on no fewer than 36 occasions) while last year’s beaten finalists Castlebar Mitchels will be up against Knockmore whom they beat when they met at the same stage of the championship last year. The two semi-finals were played as a double-header twelve months ago but this year it’s been decided to play them on different dates with the Knockmore-Castlebar match taking place on Saturday, 1st October (throw-in 4.30pm) while the Ballintubber-Ballina clash pencilled in for Sunday the 2nd (3.30pm). Both semi-finals will be played at McHale Park.

The senior championship relegation play-off between Tourmakeady and Charlestown, meanwhile, is scheduled for Claremorris on Saturday, 1st October with a midday throw-in.

In case you’re wondering why the two senior semis aren’t on the same day, it’s because they’ve both been paired with penultimate round clashes at Intermediate level. So on Saturday, 1st October, Burrishoole will face Ballyhaunis in their IFC semi-final at McHale Park (throw-in 3pm) while on the following afternoon Parke and Davitts will face off there at 2pm.

The Intermediate relegation play-off between Kilmeena and Bonniconlon will take place at Crossmolina on Sunday, 2nd October (throw-in 12pm).

The Junior championship semi-finals have been scheduled for the previous weekend, with Ardnaree down to face Lahardane at Crossmolina while Islandeady will play The Neale at McHale Park. Both matches have been fixed for Sunday, 25th September, both with 3pm throw-ins.

In the Junior B championship, Claremorris B play Garrymore B at Ballinrobe on Friday, 25th September, throw-in 8pm while Parke B will face Ballaghadereen B at McHale Park on Sunday, 25th September (throw-in 1.30pm).

The pairings and dates for the U21 A quarter-finals were also made last night. Next Sunday (18th), Aghamore play Swinford at Kiltimagh while Breaffy play Ballintubber at Westport. Throw-in for both of these matches is at 12pm. The following Friday evening (23rd) the two other quarter-finals will be played at McHale Park, with Knockmore facing Castlebar at 7.30pm while Ballina play Hollymount/Carramore at 8.30pm.

  1. WJ, this weeks Western has it that two of the selectors have stepped down. James Horan paid them a huge tribute in the article and is looking for a dynamic trainer and the scope is nationwide.

So any buck who feels he has the magic mojo should contact the county board with their credentials.

By the way…applications must be submitted during daylight hours. The county board wants to conserve electrical energy.
