The global extravaganza that was the Mayo club championship draws took place earlier on tonight. The draws, which were held at MacHale Park, were beamed around the globe over the internet by Local Streaming but I was otherwise engaged this evening so I saw none of the action. If you were in the same boat you can watch it all again here.

Thanks for that, F’deelin. I didn’t watch the draw myself so I wasn’t sure if the Round 2 and 3 matches had been fixed last night as well.
Anyone have the intermediate draws – all 3 rounds
Thought it was brilliant to have the draw live last night. However having one group the exact same as last year shouldn’t be let happen.
But the introduction of one home, one away and one neutral venue is a great new addition. Well done CB. Overall a success I’d say.
Fecking exact same group as last year and probably the same result for my Stephenites and Ballinrobe although we might swap places!!
Absolutely no change in chaionships. Could they not try and spice it up for one years trial and put all 16 teams into one bowl and not seed anyone. It has to be better than the same old predictable stuff. Same 4 teams in one group should not happen and the exact same timetable of games . Neutral venue for last game is a good idea.
Should have at least 4 amalgamated teams from Junior and Intermediate teams in Senior championship. North, South, East and West Mayo. But sure that will never pass in Mayo. Plus ça change.
JPM, It did happen in the past but was not continued for whatever reason. Was it because amalgamated teams were considered too strong for single senior club?. Certainly combining, for example, all non Senior North Mayo clubs [Belmullet, Kilcommon, Ballycastle, Killala, Lacken, Ardagh, Moygownagh, Ardnaree, Bonniconlon ssems a bit over the top to me. [Apologies to any club I have omitted from that list] . It would also require quite a culture change for Junior/Intermediate club players [and supporters] to serve two masters, their own club and the amalgamation. Not easily done and would probably require the Inter and Junior championships to be played in a different time frame to the Senior. Doing that combined with Provincial deadlines is almost certainly not possible. I know it’s done in Kerry but they are doing it for years and there is no need now for that culture change.
latest podcast from Wooly (sportsJoe.in GAA hour) is very good. 28 mins in is when it gets interesting for us.
The reason why it was stopped is the divisional teams could not be relegated even if they were there worst team so the poorer senior clubs kicked up a bit and vote against amalgamation!
It’s a pity! As it would give more a chance for the good lads from junior teams to mix it with the best.
Our master fixtures are shocking as it is but wouldn’t it be great to have 2 championships at senior level. 1 for exclusive senior and one to include junior and inter amalgamated teams!
