Good draw for the neale happy for them deserve a break
I see that nominations for the post of the Mayo U21s manager’s job have to be in with the clubs by the 9th of Aug. Any word on who might be in the running for this job I wonder.
Intermediate championship hard to call.
Ballintubber is a tough draw for us but I am just happy to be in the quater finals and not battling it out for relegation. I think we will give tubber plenty of trouble especially if Evan and Sean Regan are fit. We will probably lose in the end but the progress has been good for Ballina this year with a young enough team.
The Kiltane Knockmore match will be a great old school North Mayo battle and I have a sneaky feeling Kiltane will scrape through to the last four with Roger Milla and the boys reliving memories of 1995!!!!
I missed all the craic in 95 Crete as I was in Africa , there was little internet and a phone call home cost an absolute fortune. Times have changed. Revenge for 89 over Knockmore would be nice, I presume this game is in Bangor due to Kiltane topping their group? Home advantage could really tell here. A former Mayo legend told me last summer “Bangor! you had to be 10 points better to come out with a 2 point win!” 🙂
Kiltane and Garrymore. Incredible standard for small picks for 30 years.
I dunno Kiltane have a big enough area to pick from but yes they do maximise it. Belmullet is the place that should be doing alot better with the pick they have
The Four QF’s will be played in neutral venues. At a guess three in McHale Park and North Mayo Derby in Ballina.
Ballintubber should account for Ballina, and Castlebar should be too strong for Aghamore.
Knockmore and Kiltane have drawn their last couple of encounters and this should be an epic clash. Would like to see Kiltane make a breakthrough at Senior level but very hard to call at this remove.
Breaffy have five Senior panelists and a huge number of County Minors and U21’s. Garrymore have no player on any county squad, but have a great recent record against Breaffy. Another tight contest but Breaffy have the Star quality and will really fancy their chances of a tilt at Tubber in the Semis
Belmullet produce lots of tall hardy minors that seem to dissappear.
Claremorris have a big pick and look like will do something over next three years.
In terms of available youth maybe Swinford and Moy Davitts could be doing better. The two neighbouring clubs encompass a lot of national schools. Tis all about from u16 to senior. What happens in those five years.
Westport as well could do better but Gaelic football had a bit of a lag in Westport. Seem to be catching up overall.
Ballintubber v castlebar in the final I would think
Kiltane and Garry have always punched above their weight. They have lead the way for all small rural areas to follow. They always seem competitive and exhibit a lot of ambition. They are both up against the next day, just the way they would choose to have it.
Do Garrymore still have the traditional Tea, sandwiches and a pint in the clubhouse. Played them a few times and that would be the highlight of the evening. A very hospitable club.
I haven’t seen any mention of it in the press or RTE but I understand that Mayo Ladies are playing Tyrone in a qualifier in Ballinamore this afternoon. Whether the lack of publicity for Ladies fixtures is down to media laziness or the Ladies Assoc. not providing the info I do not know but I have long held the view that the lack of publicity for women’s sport in this country is a scandal and I do not understand why the women’s sports orgs do not come together to demand their fair share. This week the Camogie assoc.got a full page in the Indo for their coin toss controversy – after it had been resolved. When did a women’s sport [other than Katie Taylor] last get a full page. The RTE website carries some results of the Ladies Senior championship but no fixtures. So let’s hear it girls, ye’re not usually so silent.
I hope to get some details from Ballinamore later on re result.
Yes JP, the tradition lives on. I believe the prayer before the game still takes place in the dressing room beforehand also. They might need a Rosary to stop big Aido in the Quarter Finals
Big win for mayo ladies. 4.15 to a few points.
Donegal flying again! Our boys will have to be up before their breakfast.
