Last weekend the finalists in this year’s Senior, Intermediate and Junior club football Championships were identified, with the Moclair, Sweeney and McDonnell Cups now almost within reach for the protagonists who remain standing.
In this episode of the Mayo News football podcast we review all the semi-final and play-off action that took place at the weekend. Mayo News sports editor Mike Finnerty hosts the show and he’s joined by Stephen Drake and Ger Flanagan to reflect on great wins for Belmullet, Knockmore, Balla, Mayo Gaels, Ballyhaunis, Lahardane, Kilmeena and Cill Chomáin.
We also hear from Belmullet goalkeeper, Shane Nallen, who spoke to Mike after his team beat Knockmore on Sunday to reach their first Mayo SFC Final since 1981. Ger then gives us a great insight into the mood in the Balla camp after they beat Kiltane to avoid relegation to the Intermediate championship last weekend.
The lads also pick their latest candidates for our ‘Bring Him In’ slot, as they select three players who might have something to offer Mayo manager James Horan next season. Rounding off this episode, we reveal our Mayo News Football Podcast ‘Player of the Week’ who wins a €50 voucher for Bar Square in Ballina, a prize kindly sponsored by Nigel Reape Office Supplies, Print and Signs.
