Club results and fixtures

This is just a quick one to flag the results of the weekend’s club SFL matches and the club fixtures taking place this coming weekend.

The headline results from Division 1 – all SFL quarter-finals – were Westport’s 2-11 to 0-10 win over my home club Aghamore, Knockmore’s 2-16 to 1-10 victory over Ballinrobe, Garrymore’s 1-12 to 0-12 success over Ballintubber and, in the big one, Castlebar Mitchels’ 1-20 to 0-14 defeat of Ballina Stephenites.

The SFL semi-finals are down for decision this weekend. In Division 1 there are two tasty encounters, with Westport hosting Garrymore while Knockmore entertain Castlebar Mitchels. Sadly, both of these matches are on at the same time – 7pm on Saturday evening – so it’s a case of one or the other for those who’d like to attend.

  1. Time to park Mayo GAA for 2023 and get behind the Mayo club we have a brilliant club championship coming up in 4 weeks time.

  2. Very frustrating this continual timing of games that clash. CB fixtures sec needs to appreciate that many supporters would love to take in multiple games.

  3. Playing the two games on Saturday evening means the players have all day Sunday for themselves and can also go out for a few drinks after the game on Saturday evening.
I would think most players prefer the Saturday evening games.

  4. 2 massive semi finals, i expect all 4 teams will be trying to put down a marker as they are likely the top 4 contenders for championship also. Westport seem to be adding serious depth all the time and have a great age profile. Castlebar quietly building again

  5. Could they not have had a game on Friday evening or Sunday afternoon.Another crazy decision by County Board.putting 2 big games on at one time in different venues.Hopefully this improves by championship and they stagger games.
For championship for all grades Senior, Inter, and Junior you could have one game on a Friday evening at 7.30, 4 games on Saturday 2 games at 5pm and 2 at 7pm and 3 games Sunday 2 at 2pm and 2 at 4pm.Its gives the supporter an option to attend a good few games and more revenue for County Board.its a win/win.

  6. Castlebar v Knockmore could be a shadow boxing exercise with both meeting again in few weeks.
    County board can’t work.
Games on one day gives lads a break. Friday evening games were great earlier in rounds mind.

  7. Looking forward to the club games hopefully a few lads will put their hands up for a place in the Mayo panel

  8. I see galway club championship first round fixtures announced for weekend after next
Games staggered over Friday and Saturday
Hopefully our county board will do likewise

  9. Conal Dawson and Finbar McLaughlin both of interest for Westport. Dawson came up through Mayo minor and u20 ranks can score from distance. McLaughlin the youngest of the trio was on Mayo minor panel..

  10. Mayo News reporting that David Mcbrien to miss club championship after a shoulder operation.
Injury suffered 2 weekends ago playing for Ballagh.
Lets hope there are no long term issues.
