The county’s U17 and U20 hurlers were both in action today. It was a case of contrasting fortunes in their respective games with the U17s chiselling out a narrow enough win while the U20s were well beaten in their game.

The U17s were up against Donegal in Round 2 of the Celtic Challenge, a match that took place at the Donegal GAA Centre of Excellence in Convoy. The Mayo lads led by 0-6 to 0-5 at the break and they performed strongly in the second half too, as they ran out winners by 1-12 to 1-8.

Over at Breffni Park in Cavan, meanwhile, the U20 hurlers this afternoon took on Derry the semi-final of the All-Ireland B Championship. The Oak Leaf County were the stronger team pretty much throughout today’s game and they won easily enough, getting the better of our lads by 1-24 to 1-7.
