Sunday’s county final between Ballintubber and Ballaghaderreen should draw a decent enough sized crowd to McHale Park but for those who can’t make it there on the day (and that’ll include me) the good news is that TG4 will be covering the match live. Not only that, I’m almost sure that they’ll be broadcasting it in HD as well so if you live in UPC-land you should be able to see the action in startling clarity on channel 137.
It’s a double header at McHale Park on Sunday with the day’s curtain-raiser, the Junior final between The Neale and Ardnaree, throwing in at 1.45pm (not 2pm as has been advertised – the earlier start is needed because of the TV coverage) while the showdown for the Moclair Cup is set to get underway at 3.30pm.
Elsewhere on the club scene this weekend, the crunch relegation play-off between Kiltane and Ballina – previewed here by Ed McGreal in the Mayo News – takes place on Sunday in Crossmolina with a midday throw-in. Later the same afternoon, newly-crowned county Intermediate champions Charlestown take on Galway’s Carna-Cashel in the quarter-final of the Connacht Intermediate club championship. That one is down for decision at Pearse Stadium in Salthill where throw-in takes place at 2.30pm.
Good stuff, means we’ll all be able to see what the pick of the clubs have to offer, see what rising talents are on show.
On another note, is it true as reported that the Connacht final losers will only have a six day turn around again?! I thought it had gone through Council that this would never happen again? If it is, it’s a complete disgrace.
Yes it’s true and not that 6 or 12 day turnaround will make much difference to Leitrim,Sligo next year. I fancy Ballintubber to win three in row on Sunday.

Is it me or does the Ballintubber team play a very similar style to that of the Mayo team? Of coarse its not surprising seeing as James Horan managed them until he took over the mayo role. Hon the Tubber . Balllintubber was the first team i played against i came off the bench in an under 10?s game for Burrishoole . Ahhhh the memories
James Horan won’t find many players out of that shocking final today. Ballaghaderreen the best team no doubt and well done to them however Ballintubber without O’Connor are toothless and once Alan Dillon went off injured it was curtains for them.
Salthill or St Brigids will probably win senior Connacht now and Charlestown look good for the Intermediate Connacht title after their big win over the Galway champions today.
Having seen the two teams in their semi finals, I fully expected Ballaghaderreen to win today. They did so easily, but the standard of football of both teams was terrible – bad wides, passes straight into the hands of opponents etc. I hope Ballaghaderreen can improve before they take on the Sligo champions in two weeks’ time.
Shocking stuff, but that kilcullen midfielder looked ok and took a fair belt in the face and kept going.
