Cracking club coverage on the podcast

It’s county final weekend and, as Mayo Football Podcast club members will know, we’ve been all over the club Championship action on the podcast in recent weeks, as the battles for the Moclair, Sweeney and McDonnell Cups have gathered pace.

The Senior, Intermediate and Junior football finals all take place at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park this weekend. The Intermediate decider between Ballinrobe and Kilmeena is a standalone fixture tomorrow (throw-in 4pm), while there’s a double-header on Sunday, with the Junior final between Lahardane MacHale and Shrule/Glencorrib at 2.30pm, followed by the Senior decider, in which Ballina Stephenites play Breaffy, at 4.15pm.

To showcase these deciders we released three separate county final preview shows on the podcast this week. Combined, these shows run to over three hours of audio, with expert analysis, loads of chat and interviews with representatives of all the competing finalists.

The first show out the traps this week, on Tuesday, was the Senior final preview. Mike was joined on that one by Colm Boyle and Ger Flanagan and it also featured interviews with Ballina’s manager Niall Heffernan and Breaffy’s manager Konrad Coghill.

On Wednesday our Intermediate final preview pod went online. Mike had Boyler and Ger on board for this one too – both hold IFC medals so no better men to chat about what it takes to win the Sweeney Cup – and we also heard from Kilmeena’s manager John Reilly and Ballinrobe’s manager Peter Ford.

Yesterday evening our Junior final preview was released. Rob and Mike led out this one and it included insightful analysis on both finalists by Eoghan McGrath of Cill Chomáin, who’d seen both clubs up close this season. This pod also featured Lahardane’s manager Eddie Conroy and team captain Aaron Murphy, as well as Shrule/Glencorrib manager Tom Burke.

Tomorrow and Sunday we’ll have Final Whistle podcast shows that we’ll record at MacHale Park and will release as soon as possible afterwards. In these shows we’ll provide immediate post-match analysis and in-the-moment reaction to the outcome of each of these title deciders.

All of this content is available to our loyal club members on Patreon. Already this year we’ve released 130 podcast shows, the vast bulk of these Patreon-only pods, with more to come before year-end. This year we’ve covered Mayo’s League and Championship matches, we’ve covered the county’s U20 and Minor Championship campaigns, we’ve covered Mayo’s LGFA Championship games and, of course, we’ve covered the club Championships as well.

  1. Brilliant coverage. Ashamed to say that while I have a pretty good knowledge of our senior club teams and a fair insight into intermediate, my following of junior is usually kept to the minimum. That is unless my own club is involved which hasn’t been the case with the first team for a long while. So the in depth coverage this week of the junior comps was much appreciated.
