This is just a quick one, to remind everyone about the three do-or-die Connacht club football Championship ties involving teams from the county that are down for decision this weekend.
Starting at Senior level, on Sunday county champions Ballintubber take on seven-in-a-row Galway champions Corofin at Tuam Stadium. Fresh from their close shave against Tuam Stars, defending All-Ireland champions Corofin will be strong favourites to progress to yet another provincial club final. Throw-in at St Jarlath’s Park is 2pm on Sunday.
Tomorrow at Markievicz Park The Neale take on Sligo club Geevagh in the Connacht Intermediate semi-final. Back at MacHale Park tomorrow afternoon Kilmaine face Roscommon’s Ballinameen in the semi-final of the Connacht Junior football championship. Both of those matches also throw in at 2pm.
Best of luck to all three Mayo teams in action this weekend.
I’ll be taking a keen interest in the game this Sunday, moreso as a marker to see where we (Stars ) really are.
We pushed Corofin extremely close over the two games, should have won the first day, but in recent years they tend to really start motoring when they get out of Galway.
If Tubber are at full strenght, dont play defensive, and bring serious intensity , they have a chance, anything less, and there will be only one winner..
Agree tuam star. Tuber need to play offensive like they did against ballaghaderreen. Could come down to the tuber injuries and how serious they are.
Best of luck to the two neighbours, kilmaine and the Neale. Both capable of wining and hope they do. It will make November bearable if there’s two finals to look forward to.
2 big wins for kilmaine and the Neale. Hopefully Ballintubber can complete the hat trick tomorrow!
The Neale were brilliant again today!! Tommy Conroy ran riot. If this buck is developed right, he’ll be a serious player for Mayo. Has absolute scorching pace and is relatively tall, as natural score getter iv’e seen in a long time.
Well done to Kilmaine aswell, fairly hammered a Rossie side. Good day for South Mayo. Best of luck to Tubber tommorow.
Adam Barrett outstanding for Kilmaine but in truth they had little to beat
Great stuff by the 2 South Mayo clubs Hopefully Ballintubber can do it tomorrow.
Corofin forward line likely to be the difference today. Would argue Tubbers defense are better as a unit and midfield will swing in their favour if Jason Gibbons really imposes himself today…..Corofin just have that bit of extra class up front to eek out those vital scores to edve them in front. Hope Cillian good to go this morning.
Well done to the 2 South mayo teams yesterday. I heard the neale were excellent for majority of the game. I find it strange hoping kilmaine keep winning eventhough they couldn’t win Mayo. Hopefully Tubber an get through today.
The ballintubber blanket no match for Corofin so far….no imagination up front.
Well credit to Tubber they came back well to reduce the margin to one point at one stage but again just not good enough to beat Corofin who themselves looked to get ahead of themselves and think they had it won.
Hard Luck to Ballintubber Corofin seem to get their Scores easier Jason Leonard a brillant free taker.
Congrats to CL McHale rovers ( Lahardane, Crossmolina and Ardagh. ) junior girls on reaching the AIF . Brilliant win away in Tyrone today.
Fair play to Ballintubber, played right down to the final whistle and put it up to a top class Corofin side. Jason Gibbons the stand out player again for Ballintubber. Never gets enough credit for his performances. Well done to the lads for putting in a great performance and overall entertaining game.
Hard luck Ballintubber. Played with plenty of endeavour today but just came up short against a Corofin team who only played in fits & starts. Forward scoring threat the diffence. Tubber will also feel hard done by some poor refereeing decisions – one of which led to the Corofin goal from what should have been a free in to Tubber right in front of the posts. Once again the lack of interest in our club games from so many of the summer time posters is disappointing.
45 – there’s no need for that pop at those who follow the county team in summer. Each to their own. Traffic levels are always way lower here at this time of year.
I was at the game as well, surprised with the very small crowd. Agree with yew tree, ballintubber had little or no imagination or class up front. Corofin always looked comfortable yet with a few minutes left ballintubber had possession to equalise but gave it away very cheaply. Lacked composure when it was most needed. Still fair play to ballintubber in giving a good account of themselves, best for them were j. gibbons and d. o connor.
Anyone else worried about cillians form.Bar frees today he did nothing and a 40 year old had him in his pocket .Don’t think he can expect to be the first forward on the timesheet for mayo next year. Agree that some of the refs decisions seemed to go against rubber but corofins forward play was just better.
I was in tuam today and as a proud Ballintubber man I can only say that the referee today was diabolical, the free he gave to Corofin that led to the goal was mind boggling…cost us the game…Corofin are a serious outfit but we gave as good as we got over the course of the game so it’s hard to take..however we fought to the bitter end regardless of the referee
Regarding Cillians form…as someone who has been at all Ballintubber games this year..all I can say is he was top class all year and in my opinion has been brilliant for the club..people gotta remember he was touch and go to play today and has not trained in 3 weeks…
Disappointed with Ballintuber today. They lacked ambition to have a real go at Corofin, the way they took the game to Ballaghadeereen in the county final. Didn’t think the Ref was that bad, actually it could have been worse if he had shown a few Black cards for tackles around the neck area by a couple of Ballintubber players.Jason and Diarmuid the pick of the losers but Corofin full value for the win and will be tough to beat from here.
Cillian’s form was very good during the county championship, especially against Ballina and Ballaghaderreen.
And Corofin didn’t tackle anyone around the neck..???the call for steps against us before the goal was terrible,in the lead up Lundy took 8 steps and no free….dont say a goal in a tight game dosent make a huge difference!
Tackling around the neck isn’t a black card. It’s either yellow or red.
Cillian did well to play at all today considering he hasn’t kicked a ball since the county final because of a hamstring injury. He did all he could being only half fit
The corofin goal was the crucial moment in the game. However the free given to corofin in the lead up the to the goal for overcarrying by a tubber player was a shocking call by the ref. Lundy carried the ball in the build up to the corofin goal and took at least 8 steps yet the ref let it go. No consistency from the referee and overall that corofin goal was the difference today.
