The dates for this year’s Connacht U17 (Minor) football Championship have now been confirmed. The competition will initially be run off in a round-robin format, with matches fixed for Friday evenings. Our schedule of matches over the coming weeks is as follows:

  1. I must say it’s an awful shame they don’t do something like this for under 20s.
Knock out is nuts for a team training all year. Better off having a league basis than one loss and out. Wish they’d have a look at it. Galway must be so sore, train all year and lose a match in conditions like last week and you’re done.
That said, it’d be better if the top two teams went straight into a final. No need for semi finals if there are only 5 teams.

  2. They don’t really train all year for u20s though. most players will have been playing sigerson/HEA competitions earlier in the year, some will also have been with the senior intercounty squad.
The reality is that its shoehorned into its current place in the calendar and there isn’t time for round Robin especially if senior teams want those players for championship.

  3. 2 teams are eliminated after round robin. There is only 1 semi final. Top team goes straight through to final, second and third play off to join them.

  4. Yes top team into final and 2nd plays 3rd in semi. 4th plays 5th in a B final . It’s a good format and played off in consecutive weeks for this age group.
