Both matches played today involving teams from the county ended in defeats, both of them to Ulster opposition.
In camogie, the county’s first round game in Division 3A was away to Armagh and that one finished in favour of the Orchard County on a scoreline of 5-12 to 2-5. The gap between the teams was only three points at the break but the home side eased clear in the second half.
In football, meanwhile, the U20s tasted defeat for the first time in this year’s Leo Murphy Cup when they lost narrowly at Bekan to Donegal this afternoon. Donegal came out on top today by 1-13 to 1-11.
Commiserations to both Mayo teams on their respective losses.
Was at the U20s game in Bekan, could have gone either way , a few key turn overs cost us in second half that led to their goal and a couple of points at the end. We were already in the final after 2 previous wins and never got to the tempo or intensity we did in the earlier games. Donegal off 2 losses cleary had more to prove , our coaches will have another big game now in the final against Meath next week and hopefully they will have Touhy and Callinan back from the senior panel and a number of other lads returning from injury to move towards what their championship starting team will look like for next month’s Connacht semi. Overall there is the basis of a good squad with the younger lads again performing well and challenging strongly.
We played Russian roulette with our kick’s out for 3/4,s of the game and lost. I can’t for the life of me understand why our management didn’t do anything about it. We deserved to be beat and probably should have been more.
