Defeats in camogie final and in hurling game

The two matches the county was involved in today ended, sadly, in defeat.

Starting with the camogie, the Mayo Minors this afternoon contested the All-Ireland Minor C Championship final against Wicklow. It was a very strong team from the Garden County and they dominated the first half, leading by 3-4 to 0-1 at the break.

Wicklow added a fourth goal soon after the resumption but that was the last of the scoring they managed to do. The Mayo team battled bravely right throughout the second half but the lead Wicklow had built up prior to then was too big to reel in. At the finish, Wicklow prevailed on a scoreline of 4-4 to 0-6.

Over at James Stephens Park in Ballina this afternoon, meanwhile, the county’s hurlers fell to their fourth defeat in their NHL Division 2B campaign. They lost out today to Donegal on a scoreline of 2-17 to 1-13. Next up for them is a relegation play-off against fellow strugglers Wicklow next weekend.
