Down’s minors book semi-final date with our lads

That close encounter with the swine flu doesn’t appear to have done Down’s minors too much damage: they beat Leinster champions Dublin this afternoon in a rip-roaring All-Ireland quarter-final at Breffni Park and now face our lads in the semi-finals tomorrow fortnight.  The Mourne lads won by 2-16 to 2-14 in a match that contained a fair few twists and turns, none sharper than the injury time goal that sealed victory by two points for the Down lads.

The girls, meanwhile, had a great win today as well, when they saw off Tyrone by 3-9 to 1-12 at Ballymahon to qualify, yet again, for the All-Ireland semi-finals.  Today’s match was a bit of a battle but Cora popped up at the vital moment late on to thunder home that third goal, which was the one that finally put those uppity Nordie girls back in their box.
