FBD wins for Galway, Sligo and Leitrim

The 2013 FBD League got going this afternoon and the three matches played earlier on today produced wins for Galway, Sligo and Leitrim. The first two – against third-level opposition – were expected but last one was a bit of a surprise, even if it was the second year in a row that the Ridge County had managed to get the better of the Rossies in the FBD.

In Section A, Galway had an easy 0-16 to 0-6 win over NUIG at Tuam, in a match where Michael Meehan lined out from the start. It’s been a while since he’s done that in the FBD, I reckon. Over in Ballinode, meanwhile, Sligo enjoyed an equally comfortable win, as they beat Sligo IT by 0-14 to 0-5 where Niall Murphy and Mark Breheny each scored 0-5 for the winners.

In Section B, Leitrim fought back from three points down early in the second half to edge out Roscommon by 0-6 to 0-5 at Elphin. Four unanswered points from the visitors – with the winner coming from Conor Beirne – sealed the match for Leitrim and the win will undoubtedly put them in good mood for their clash with our lads this day week at Ballinamore.

A brief account of today’s FBD action is on the RTÉ website – here.

  1. Just wondering how seriously our lads will treat the FBD this year, or will they be trying
to make restitution for last year. Either way it’s going to be a very interesting year, with high expectations all round – we can only wish them well !!!

  2. Not all of the Mayo panel traveled to Miami or did some of them return home early? i see AOS,Doherty among other lined out for their colleges Doherty scored 0-7 for DIT.

  3. it might have clashed with exams for some of the students MO2013, a few of the colleges have them after the christmas.

the spailpin has a nice piece up setting the scene for the winter leagues.
