Football, interrupted III – Mayo News football podcast 2020, E13

As the Covid-19 pandemic rumbles on, the realisation is now dawning on everyone that we’ll be living with this new normal for quite a while. So many things we took for granted, football included, are struggling to get a look in at this time, though here on the Mayo News football podcast we’re determined to keep the football chat going, even if the live action remains furloughed for now.

In this latest episode in our ‘Football, Interrupted’ series of the podcast, Rob Murphy, Mike Finnerty and I reassemble – at a safe distance – to check in on each other and to discuss what’s happening in the world of Gaelic football.

Then we move to the centre-piece of this episode where Mike chats in detail with Mayo star Jason Doherty. The conversation ranges from Jason’s rehab from the cruciate ligament injury he suffered in last year’s Super 8s clash with Donegal to what life is like in the Mayo camp in the shadow of the coronavirus and much more besides.

To round off this episode Mike provides an outline of what’s in the sports pages of this week’s Mayo News and he also gives advance notice of the paper’s feature starting next week which aims to identify the hundred best club football players in the county at the moment.

This latest episode of the Mayo News football podcast is now online and is available to listen to on iTunes, SoundCloud, Spotify and Podomatic. You can also listen to it directly on the Mayo News website as well as here on the blog using the SoundCloud player below or the one on the panel on the right.
