The Mayo News announced on Twitter a short while ago that Barry Moran’s appeal against the straight red he got from Marty Duffy in Castlebar Mitchels’ Connacht club final clash with Roscommon’s St. Brigid’s a few weeks back has succeeded. As a result, he’ll be available for selection in the All-Ireland semi-final against Kerry’s Dr. Crokes next February. Indeed, today could prove an even more memorable one for the big lad as he’s one of three Castlebar players – Richie Feeney and Neil Douglas being the other two – in contention for the Mayo Senior Footballer of the Year award, the winner of which is set to be announced at the bash in the Knockranny Hotel tonight.
#freethebird brilliant! Mitchels v Vincents final WJ? Would love to see it!
Slightly off topic, with the lads gone away on holiday, our first FBD match against NUIG has been put back to Friday 10th January, don’t know what time.
The lad was commited to the tackle against Karol Mannion, and the offence (although it looked bad) did not warrant a red. Most Rossies won’t be impressed all the same, this will be seen as a step towards a two speed Connacht. One law for Mayo and one for the rest. For the record nobody from Brigids has a gripe against Castlebar and we would wish them well, however Duffy is a different matter.
It’s starting to look like that may be it, Mick. In one sense, I’d dread such an outcome but as I’ve said before there’s an air of the inevitable about such an outcome. That said, Vinnies have a major hurdle facing them in Tullamore on Sunday – one step at a time and all that.
Hadn’t heard that MM – fair play. Was wondering if that would be the case alright.
Good to see the bird will be in full flight again in Feb!
Can you give me a few examples of this one law for Mayo and another for the rest?
There seems to be a bit of an angry vibe in your posts of late.
Its up to Roscommon to get to the standard Mayo have set in Connacht, its not up to Mayo to drop in standard in order to make a level playing field.
Connacht council decisions are not down to Mayo teams. Crying about hyde park not being allowed hold finals will not fix the problem either , have ye done anything to bring it up to scratch since the decision last year or have ye pumped money into a state of the art gym instead?
Rossies, always the victim card.
First Danny Kirby appeal successful, now Barry Moran appeal successful. Two good results. Usually you would be lucky to get one. No wonder Roscommon/ St Brigit’s are asking questions.
Look I would say this much, there is a case for 1 (maybe 2 at a push) red card getting overturned for bridgits and I’m sure had ye gone on that would have happened. Anyway I think marty duffy has alot to answer for and its a miracle it was such a good game with that clown in charge. He’s a useless lump
When i was at the game i thought at the time it was harsh sending off but having viewed it since i can see why Duffy gave Barry Moran a red card. To be honest hes rather lucky to get off..
Rossoneri,
Any word on Frankie Dolan’s fate? I presume that if he sought a hearing it would also have been last night.
@ AndyD, hearing not yet heard.
@ Sean
What technicality got kirby free to play in final – he scored 1-1.
40 years plus of hosting Connacht finals, the capacity of Hyde is dramatically reduced at the same time McHale re opens with massive debt burden.
What was the selection criteria that deemed Ballyhaunis a suitable venue for the Connacht centre of excellence – its Prentys home town.
Why did Brigids suffer the consequences of idiot behaviour of Corofin supporters, by not been allowed to host Connacht club finals.
Why were the Brigids club harassed by Connacht club officials into what they could and could not do on match days, when Castlebar and Salthill can do what they like.
The connacht council is not been run in a transparent and impartial why.
Plus nobody in the St Brigids club seen any assault on any offical during or prior the Connacht final. And yes buddy I am angry.
Having both Kirby and Moran available for the semi-final is a huge boost to Mitchels chances on February 9th. Seriously strong panel who have every chance of taking down Dr Crokes.
“What technicality got kirby free to play in final – he scored 1-1.”
I honestly don’t know but what we do know it was an u-21 game he was sent off in and he did miss the Corofin game through suspension.
“40 years plus of hosting Connacht finals, the capacity of Hyde is dramatically reduced at the same time McHale re opens with massive debt burden.”
Reduced by the slattery report was it not? How in gods name you tie that decision into some sort of conspiracy about McHale park debt, is beyond me.
”

The irony of that whilst complaining about refereeing of CF this year, Corofin were robed blatantly that day. Your ground is your responsibility also, maybe the security in place that day was not competent ,did brigids air their grievances about the decision?
“The connacht council is not been run in a transparent and impartial why.”
That is an opinion and has nothing to do with Mayo teams.
“Plus nobody in the St Brigids club seen any assault on any offical during or prior the Connacht final. And yes buddy I am angry.”
Opticians and anger management .
Beat Mayo next June and ye will not be making these type of noises.
In fairness Sean what happens at county level will matter little, the debate is mostly about club football and there will be noise made about this year Connacht club final for many years to come thanks mostly to Marty Duffy.
I’m afraid not, the Rossies have a bee in their bonnet about unfairness, bias towards all things Mayo etc , John prenty , bekan.
I don’t like Duffy as a ref tbh, I honestly don’t think he s any use and some of his decision making for the game in question was shite , brigids didn’t get a whole lot to go their way and were probably at the end of more bad decisions than Mitchels but to suggest there is some kind of conspiracy in favour of all things Mayo is just ridiculous and that is what is being said
Ballyhaunis is about as central for the province as any for the Connacht Centre of Excellence, if you agree that a provincial centre is needed.
I myself have never agreed that a provincial centre is needed and that the money should have been invested in county centres and perhaps for bigger counties regional centres.
Realistically such a centre cannot be of much use to a club or school outside perhaps a 30 mile radius. I am aware that Leitrim are developing their own centre [on N4 south of Carrick on Shannon] and that Sligo have ambitions for one also. Do Roscommon not have something in that line in Kilbride and Galway in Loughgeorge?.
The technicality of the Hyde been a shit hole prob didnt help things for the rossies not hosting big games!!! Ask for the sending off etc Marty Duffy shouldnt be given junior c never mind Senior finals!!!!
where to you get the heading it is so funny hope the mitchels beat crokes also would love to see mayo beat kerry next year funny feeling they might
Frankie Dolans ban reduced by Croke Park, back in April some time. Manners put on the connacht council at last.
