Well done to the ladies for once again lifting the gloom within the county: they beat Laois today in the Ladies NFL semi-final to set up a final clash with Cork (brief report from RTE here). The girls had six points to spare over the O’Moore County at Aghamore this afternoon (surely the first competitive inter-county match to be held at this East Mayo venue?), with Emma Mullen – who bagged 3-3 – doing most of the damage and showing that stopping Cora (who got just one point today) doesn’t equate to stopping Mayo.
The girls will have a hard battle in the final as, for the past few years, the Rebelettes have been the Kerrymen of ladies football (if such a metaphor makes sense). But we can always be sure that the girls will give their best and here’s hoping they’ll land another national title for the county in a few week’s time.
