Goals clinch it for Kerry

Goals win games but, from Mayo’s perspective in this afternoon’s LGFA NFL Division One clash with Kerry at the Connacht GAA CoE, they can also lose them. Mayo scored thirteen times to Kerry’s eight in Bekan today but three of those scores from the Kingdom were goals and that saw them win by a single point on a scoreline of 3-5 to 0-13.

I didn’t see this match as I was on the road west at the time but Michael Gallagher did and his match report for the Irish Examiner is here.

Next up for the women is a trip to Waterford next weekend.

Mayo: Laura Brennan; Éilís Ronayne, Róisín Flynn, Danielle Caldwell; Lucy Wallace, Sarah Tierney, Kathryn Sullivan; Clodagh McManamon, Sinéad Cafferky; Hannah Reape, Shauna Howley (0-5, frees), Tara Needham; Lisa Cafferky, Rachel Kearns (0-1), Maria Cannon (0-4, frees). Subs: Sinéad Walsh (0-3) for Reape, Ciara Needham for Sullivan, Erin Murray for T Needham, Fiona McHale for Kearns.

  1. Tough start for Mayo women. But they are showing great signs that they’re up for the fight.
Yes, goals win matches, but if Mayo can manage to put the squeeze on more consistently, they’ll be hard to beat.
Good luck with your next game… Waterford gave Kerry a rattle last week. Be prepared.
