All the hoopla about the GAA’s 125th anniversary took place earlier dish ear with the result that today – which marks the precise anniversary of the founding of the Association at Hayes’ Hotel down in Thurles – is set to be a fairly low-key one in terms of commemoration, celebration and all the rest.
That’s not wholly surprising, seeing as the first of November isn’t exactly the sort of date that leaps from the diary when one sets out to plan any kind of celebratory event. It is, however, worth recording – as is being done today in various ways – that today was the day when it all began 125 years ago. So, given the day that’s in it, I guess that a hearty Happy Birthday is in order for the venerable old dame, with best wishes for the next 125 years.
