This coming weekend is a down one for the county’s footballers – well, for supporters at least – and so this means that, for a change, it’s the hurlers who take centre stage.
The National Hurling League got underway last weekend and our lads made a positive start to their NHL Division 3A campaign, with a solid eight-point win over Armagh on Sunday at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park. John Melvin has a good report on that win in this week’s Connaught Telegraph (here).
Next up for the hurlers is a trip to Castleblaney to play Monaghan. The Farney lads lost out by 4-14 to 1-20 to Louth in last weekend’s opening round so they’ll be keen to make amends in their first appearance on home turf in this campaign.
Throw-in on Sunday at St Mary’s Park in Castleblaney is 1pm. Tickets for the game are available online (here) and are also available to purchase in selected Centra and SuperValu stores.
The National Hurling League is being reorganised for 2025 (explainer on that is here) and so a top four finish in Division 3A this spring is needed for us to book our place in the new Division 3 next year.
Our lads made a positive start towards that aim last Sunday and so another win this weekend would leave them in a great position towards getting where they want to be in next year’s League. The best of luck to them on Sunday.
