Hurling action this weekend

This weekend sees the second round of matches in this year’s Senior hurling Championship, with both Round 2 ties being contested tomorrow.

Defending champions Tooreen host St Ciarán’s at Adrian Freeman Park, with that match getting underway at 5pm. Josie Munnelly Park is the venue for the meeting of Castlebar Mitchels and Ballyhaunis and that one throws in at 6pm.

Match programmes for both of tomorrow’s matches are available here.

  1. For many years Toreen and Ballyhaunis have kept the flickering candle of Mayo hurling from going out altogether, and great credit is due to them for all the hard work they have put in to keep it alive. Hurling is slowly expanding in Mayo and today’s semi finals will be a good test of how much progress is being made, hopefully we’ll see 2 well contested matches. The first ever hurling match took place, not in Cork or Kilkenny, but here in Mayo at the battle of Moytura 3000 years ago, so we have a duty to promote it and not let it die out.
