We’ll be up against Down in the All-Ireland U21 semi-final on Saturday evening at Pearse Park in Longford (throw-in 5 pm): the young Mournemen overcame Armagh by a point, 1-14 to 2-10, in this evening’s Ulster decider at Casement Park. According to this report from RTE, the defending Ulster champions were behind for much of the game but a late goal from Conor Poland was enough for them to clinch back-to-back provincial titles at this level.
Last year, the Down lads were somewhat surprisingly beaten by Kildare at the penultimate stage, while our lads fell to eventual champions Kerry. I’m not sure whether or not last year’s form means anything twelve months on and I don’t even know how many of last year’s Down team are still eligible this year. Any team that wins Ulster will, however, be difficult enough to beat and we’ll find out just how difficult this will be on Saturday evening.
