It’s All-Star week, with this year’s GAA/GPA hurling and football teams set to be announced in a few days time.
Ahead of that, earlier on today the 2021 Champion 15 team – comprising players from counties who competed in the Ring, Rackard and Meagher Cups this year – was announced. Our successful Rackard Cup campaign was recognised by the inclusion of three Mayo players on the team. David Kenny at wing-back, Cathal Freeman at midfield and Keith Higgins at corner-forward all made it onto the team. Details of the full team are here.
Keith was a winner on the double today as he was also named as this year’s Rackard Player of the Year. Fully deserved it was too, as the Ballyhaunis man was a driving force in the Mayo team that stormed to Rackard Cup success this summer.
Having given the best years of his inter-county playing career to the footballers, it’s great to see that Keith has more recently been able to contribute so significantly to the hurlers. It’s all the better to see this contribution being recognised in the way that it has.
Congrats to all three lads on their awards today, with an extra special congrats to main man Keith for his double award win.
Willie Joe, this is excellent news. Congrats to David, Cathal and Keith on their awards. I’m thrilled for Keith!
Something else, Kieth Higgins, .. Dual Star Extradionaire!
Delighted for the Mayo lads and especially Zippy!
Great achievement for the team and the lads.
Well done to all the lads, and no one can blame us for giving Keith a special mention. What a man, who gave such phenomenal service to Mayo GAA. He gave us such special memories. My favouite performance was his duel with the wonderful Kerry forward O’Donaghue, a standout classic of defensive and offensive play for all serious students of Gaelic football to see. Thank you and happy days Zippy.
Zippy is a legend
Congratulations to Keith , Cathal and David
Fantastic achievement!!
Keith’s performance in hurling and club football suggests that he had something to offer in last years all Ireland had he been used.
