Kerry have this evening named their team to face our lads in the NFL Division One semi-final at Croke Park on Sunday (throw-in 2pm). As expected, they’ve recalled all the battle-hardened players who began (and, in a few cases, ended) last Sunday’s clash between us on the bench and have named a team that, in all, shows seven changes from the one that started against us in Tralee.
Out go ‘keeper Brian Kelly, backs Eoin Brosnan and Jonathan Lyne and forwards David O’Callaghan, Barry John Keane, Johnny Buckley and Kieran O’Leary and in come Brendan Kealy (in goals), Marc Ó Sé, Aidan O’Mahony, Anthony Maher, Paul Galvin, Darran O’Sullivan and Declan O’Sullivan.
There are a number of positional switches too, with Killian Young moving across to corner-back to accommodate the returning Marc Ó Sé (I definitely think we should start big Barry now – that’d put a stop to the Gaeltacht man’s gallop), Brian McGuire pushing up from 4 to 7, Kieran Donaghy similarly moving further upfield – in his case from midfield to wing-forward – and Paddy Curtin moving to corner-forward releasing the 14 spot for Declan O’Sullivan.
Here’s their full list:
Kerry (NFL Division One semi-final v Mayo, 15/4/2012): Brendan Kealy (Kilcummin); Shane Enright (Tarbert); Marc Ó Sé (An Ghaeltacht), Killian Young (Renard); Peter Crowley (Laune Rangers), Aidan O’Mahony (Rathmore), Brian Maguire (Listowel Emmett’s); Anthony Maher (Duagh), Bryan Sheehan (St. Mary’s); Paul Galvin (Finuge), Darran O’Sullivan (Glenbeigh/Glencar), Kieran Donaghy (Austin Stacks); Colm Cooper (Dr Crokes), Declan O’Sullivan (Piarsaigh Na Dromada), Patrick Curtin (Moyvane). Subs: Brian Kelly (Legion); Eoin Brosnan (Dr Crokes); Barry John Keane (Kerins O’Rahillys); Johnny Buckley (Dr Crokes); Jonathan Lyne (Legion); Kieran O’Leary (Dr Crokes); James O’Donoghue (Legion); Donnacha Walsh (Cromane); David O’Callaghan (St Pat’s Blennerville), Daniel Bohan (Austin Stacks), Michael Geaney (Daingean Ui Chuis), Daithi Casey (Dr Crokes), Fionn Fitzgerald (Dr Crokes).
We’re due to name our starting fifteen for Sunday at some stage tomorrow evening.
They have picked a fairly exceptional forward line. I expect donaghy to start at 14 and declan o Sullivan to move to their half forward line. They have so many options there though. We have got to win midfield to give ourselves a platform. I wouldn’t be too afraid of their half back line. With Dillon, Andy Moran and Mcloughlin we can dominate there. It’s going to be an interesting day! We have to tear into them from the first whistle and have no fear!
I’d be surprised if they lined out in all those positions. JH must be ready.
Dont like rumours but can anyone confirm/deny if [deleted – WJ].
I don’t like them either, Opt2missteek – house rule 6 applies, I’m afraid. I’ve heard rumours too and there’s a good chance they’re for real but in fairness to all (and in particular to the player at the centre of them) I don’t want them given further legs here at this stage. As a result, I’d appeal to everyone else to refrain from adding to the rumour mill at this point and instead wait for official confirmation as to what the position is.
Yeah, not good.
Confirmed!! … O’ Shea out with hamstring!!!
Help!!
On the one hand, he’s named in the team.
On the other:
“The Irish Examiner reports that Mayo midfielder Aidan O’Shea is in a race to be fit for the Connacht Championship opener against London or Leitrim on June 24.
The Breaffy clubman has been ruled out for six weeks with hamstring problems and will play no part in Sunday’s Allianz League semi-final against Kerry.”
Where was it confirmed True Mayo?
Aiden is on the team
James said last year on drawing Cork in the quarter finals “we welcome this, it will tell us where we are at” or words to that effect.
I would assume he would be of a similar mind this time around. I expect a fighting attitude and if one man is injured then I expect the man who replaces him to grasp the opportunity to make himself invaluable to the cause and the county.
These are the matches we want to be playing in, now is the time to make the mark. Ar aighidh libh a gasaraí, ta an t-am tagta chun na Ciarraigh buach a chuir don claíomh
A O’Shea is named on the team Full Stop
i wont cry if aidan is ruled out , just as long as he is fit for the championship , we still havent settled his partner at midfield , could be a good day to find out who is good enough
I joked about this with a fellow supporter before any rumor started at all. Hoganstand has it but I suppose JH could be doing a Jack O’ Connor on it. I hoped he would play AOShea at full forward for the first 10 mins or so as I was expecting to pay him extra attention. Heres hoping it not true…
Mayo (FL v Kerry) – David Clarke, Kevin Keane, Ger Cafferkey, Keith Higgins, Lee Keegan, Donal Vaughan, Colm Boyle, Aidan O’Shea, Jason Gibbons, Kevin McLoughlin, Andy Moran, Alan Dillon, Conor Mortimer, Jason Doherty, Michael Conroy.
Subs – Robert Hennelly, Shane McHale, Richie Feeney, Peadar Gardiner, Danny Geraghty, Barry Moran, Patrick Harte, Aidan Campbell, Cillian O’Connor, Alan Freeman, Enda Varley. According to Hogan Stand
It has to be Friday the 13th curse that has this shambles of us worrying about our midfield v Kerry on Sunday. I definitely do believe in pisreógs now.
