This is just a very quick one as I’m getting ready for yet another work trip starting tomorrow, with this one keeping me away for the entire week. But before I head back to the packing, it’s only right to salute Kiltane who this afternoon at MacHale Park were crowned Connacht IFC champions. The Erris lads were decisive winners in this afternoon’s provincial final, beating Boyle of Roscommon by 3-10 to 2-4, and so can now look forward to a possible tilt at All-Ireland honours in the New Year. Well done to them.

  1. Well done to Kiltane an excellent achievement. Also hard luck to Tooreen hurlers. Best of luck to Castlebar next week.

  2. Congrats Kiltane agree with Mayo Mark miserable cup the pubs in Bangor will have no problem filling it.We still have 2chances of winning an All Ireland. Best of luck also to the Michels in the Connaught Final.

  3. That particular cup was first won in a swinford pub darts league in 1975 and sold at Willie mulligans auction facility near Knock airport in 1989 to kilkelly national school for their 5th/6th class school 4 aside Gaelic football league. It went “underground” in 1995 and “resurfaced ” in 2013 at a car bootsale outside mchale park where a Mr Prenty spotted it and decided that in these tight times it would suffice as a provincial prize for intermediate competition.
That’s what I heard and it sure looks like a darts league type “trophy”.

  4. Totally agree re Mikey for Mayo get him in early with a few more new prospects and give plenty of game time in the leagues

  5. He didn’t have his best of games today the penalty missed summed up his slow start but he still managed to score 1-3. 18 year old Tommy (goals) Conroy was Kiltane best forward today IMO and hes going to be a good senior county footballer in a few years.

  6. Congrats indeed to Kiltane. They’ll be no cows milked in Bangor, Geesala, Doohoma, and all of the parish for days to come.

Well done to Martin Barrett and his back room team!

Super performance from a great bunch of players. And fully agree with “Mikey for Mayo” campaign.

They’ve a wonderful playing style – they move the ball as good as any club team there is around.

Great stuff Kiltane and roll on the Semi in the New Year. I think it’s against the Munster champs.

  7. Well done Kiltane – great to have an All-Iteland series to look forward to. Now for Mitchels next Sunday. Commiserations to Tooreen also.

  8. Mikey still scored 1-3 and was a marked man. Nearly alway two Boyle players on him and on occasion three. They recognised his ability and danger – isn’t it time JH and Mayo copped on to it.
Class is permanent !! Ditto For Tommy Goals – a future senior star for sure!

  9. Great stuff from the neighbours, delighted for them.
Would love to be back home for the craic tonight

  10. Great win today, defence tightened up today after 20 minutes of madness in the SF.

Half backs and midfield are really strong and fast delivery into the forwards is hard to match. As has been said already, Kiltane pay an exciting brand of football.

Congrats to all involved, hope to be there again for SF versus Munster champions in the new year,

  11. Any idea where the semi will be held? Brilliant to have a Mayo team involved at the latter stages again

  12. Congrats also to Carnacon ladies who beat Mountmellick in the Club All Ireland semi final yesterday, and belated congrats to Cora Staunton who won her ninth All Star this year. That’s some record for a Mayo footballer. Cora scored 2-7 yesterday.

  13. Last Sunday of Jan was when Charlestown played their semi final. If Castlebar reach the AI semi final it will be played on 3rd Sunday of Feb meaning Horan would be without some players for the opening NFL league games.
