Ladies undone by late penalty

There was late drama as well in the other game involving the county today but sadly this one went the other way. Armagh had fought back from five down at the Athletic Grounds but were still a point in arrears when they were awarded a last-minute penalty, which Aimee Mackin converted to secure a 2-10 to 1-11 win.

The win seals Armagh’s place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals while we’ll now need a win over Laois next weekend to make the final eight.

Hard luck to the Mayo women today and apologies for not having better coverage on this one. It just wasn’t possible, given the day that was in it.

  1. Jesus, that was a very soft penalty at the end. Mayo can definitely feel aggrieved. Crazy harsh.

  2. Very unlucky to concede at the end but it was a definite pull of the jersey so it was a penalty.
That was their first game for a while so they will take Laois and it’s onwards and upwards. They are certainly improving and have as good a chance as anyone left in it.

  3. In case you’re like most people and don’t understand why ? that penalty (ha ha)was awarded, let me clarify it was for what is known as “nothing”

  4. It was unfortunately a pull of the shirt that an eagle eyed ref spotted, and had no hesitation in blowing for the peanelty. One might say it was a harsh call but it was too obvious to let go. Luckily we have a second chance against laoish, so hopefully we can win it.

  5. An awful lot of games seem to be decided by very soft penalties, which should’nt happen, with so much at stake-soft one last week against Cork. Penalties seem to be given for things that are not regarded as fouls out the field.

  6. Hard luck Mayo. That was a horrible end to a great performance. Time to move on and treat Laois with respect, but totally believe in yourselves.
Best of luck to you all.

  7. Nothing changes when it comes to Mayo teams not closing out games / playing cute. Could it be that such tactics elicit only groans from supporters. Good luck next w/e.
