The lads are done for the year, even the club stuff is boxed away at this stage, but the same isn’t true of the ladies. Specifically the ladies team of Carnacon, the Mayo and Connacht LGFA senior champions, who have an All-Ireland final coming up on Sunday.
Parnell Park up here in the capital is the venue for Sunday’s LGFA All-Ireland senior club final, which sees Carnacon go head-to-head with Cork’s Mourneabbey. The match throws in at the Donnycarney venue at 3.40pm that afternoon and it’s also being shown live on TG4.
There’s a good piece on the upcoming final (here) in today’s Irish Examiner, featuring Cora Staunton, who, of course, will be lining out for her club in Sunday’s decider. The 42 also has a similar preview, focusing on Cora – here.
In that Examiner piece, Cora reveals that she should have been in Australia on 10th November to start her Aussie Rules adventure but the agreement was that she’d remain here until her club commitments were over. Her plan now (barring a replay) is to jet off on Tuesday next with “an All-Ireland club medal in the back pocket.”
I doubt her latest All-Star award will be in the suitcase, though, as it’s more likely she’ll leave that one at home along with the ten other in her collection. Cora’s eleventh All-Star – which she picked up last Saturday night – brings her level with Kerry’s Mary Jo Curran in the overall roll of honour. It’d be a brave person who’d bet again her adding to that total before she’s finally done.
By the way, belated congrats to Cora, and to Aileen Gilroy and Sarah Tierney too on winning All-Stars awards this year and the very best of luck to Carnacon on Sunday.
Good luck to Cora and Carnacon. Unfortunately I will not be able to get to the city on Sunday but I will be keeping an eye on what’s happening.
I’ll be glued to Midwest FM. It would be a nice ending to a tough old year. C’mon Carnacon!!
Game is on tg4
Beat of luck to Carnacon
