Lee Keegan is our MOTM from yesterday’s game

Another all-or-nothing Championship match and yet another totemic Lee Keegan performance.

In truth, Lee has been in cracking form all year but over the last two weekends, in knockout Championship ties, he’s been truly exceptional. Yesterday, when we were flailing badly, he was the man to steady us, defending resolutely, driving us forward and clipping over two badly needed scores. He was instrumental to yesterday’s comeback win.

So it’s no surprise that, for the second week in a row, Lee has topped the poll in the MOTM poll here on the blog. He wins this one with 31% of the vote, with Oisín Mullin (25%), Enda Hession (14%), Fergal Boland (9%) and Eoghan McLaughlin (6%) all featuring prominently in the voting too. Well done to all of them and, in particular, to the once-in-a-lifetime talent that is Lee Keegan.

  1. Simply the greatest ever Mayo player. Hopefully he can get a 6th all star this year if we can get a bit further in championship..

  2. Keegan has to be play in halfback line, Mullen also further out field. Right tema selection and Sam can be won.

  3. Keegan is simply a force of nature who always pops up when we need some leadership.

  4. Yes, Lee is definitely Mayo’s greatest of All Time even before the last two weekends.. Probably between himself and Stephen Cluxton as the greatest GAA player of this Millennium!

  5. Keegan has definitely helped this team through the bad times and his sportsmanship is unreal. Well deserved Lee ?

  6. A top defender in every way. Defence duties and all time top scoring defender in championship history. It’s ironic really so much talk about mayo not able to score and we can boast the top scoring defender and forward in championship history.

  7. Lee is the GOAT as all the young kids say.
If we play kerry Lee has to be in the half backs and mullin too. Them lads hiding in the full back line isn’t helping our cause.

  8. Well done Lee. MOTM for second game in a row. Enda Hession came third for second game in a row and Oisin fourth last week and second this week. Serious consistency by our “full back” line. Yesterday 2 of them scored and Enda had a shot which went wide. Great defenders and attackers!!

  9. – Yes Jeepers should be a statute of him on the new bypass roundabout !
    – Think we need to cut Mayo a bit of slack for yesterdays first half in particular.
    – Firstly the wind as others mentioned was very strong swirly and cross field it had a big impact on the game.
    – Secondly Mayo travelling up yesterday with a 7 day turnaround versus Kildare’s short trip and longer turnaround.
    – Thirdly Kildare had expected to really go for Leinster title so were stunned by Dublins early goals. That hammering meant they had nothing to lose yesterday as expectations were zero from both media and majority of their supporters.
    – Lastly Kildare are a big mobile team.
    – Fully agree about our first half with Kevin Flynn in particular playing hell and Loftus too far off him. COC no impact, it’s not match fitness just not getting into games. Jason D best days are behind him, injury has robbed him of a yard of pace. DOC better in 2nd half.
    – Subs worked and turned the game I have to say even when 6 points down I was very.hopefull we could still win as we were looking much fitter as the game went on.
    – Hold off judging Mayo until the end of the quarter final as regardless of who we get we will have a more level playing field so to speak with regards to turnaround time, travel and hopefully ROD back as he is key.

  10. Best Mayo player I have ever had the privilege of watching. Came on v kerry in 2011 semi and absolutely brilliant for us since then. Goes out and does his job day after day. So lucky he is from our county.

  11. Yes, definitely a statue should be erected for Lee Keegan, his class, bravery but most importantly is his sportsmanship. The Grab all association should ensure that he and his family are financially secure for life, the same as the soccer players
