Leitrim advance after tough battle

So we won’t get to have a Connacht championship meeting with London for the second year running, as Leitrim came with a late surge at Ruislip this afternoon to clinch victory over the home side by a single point on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-8. Having given our lads such a fright twelve months ago, London surely had high hopes of going one better today and for much of the seventy minutes it looked as if they might just do it. It wasn’t, however, to be.

London led by a goal at half-time and they were still in front with just five minutes to go but the Ridge County, who had shot a hatful of wides in the second half, finally made all that possession count and edged two ahead as the match went into injury time. The Exiles pulled one back from a free after that but the visitors held on to seal a semi-final date with our lads at McHale Park in three weeks time.

Roger Milla was in Ruislip today and, as well as a barrage of tweets (and the photo accompanying this post), he also provided audio reports on the game both at half-time (here) and at full-time (here). In addition, he’s promised that he’ll come into the guest slot to provide a more considered piece on our provincial semi-final opponents … while at the same time packing his bags for his upcoming sojourn in Poland on YBIG duties. Who said men can’t multitask?
