The county’s women footballers take centre-stage tomorrow, as they take on Galway in the LGFA SFC quarter-final. The game throws in at MacHale Park at 1.45pm and it’ll be broadcast live by TG4.

Here’s the team we’ve named for this knockout fixture.

Mayo (LGFA SFC quarter-final v Galway, 2/8/2021): Aisling Tarpey (Foxrock Cabinteely); Saoirse Lally (Westport), Orla Conlon (Castlebar Mitchels), Marie Corbett (Carnacon); Tamara O’Connor (Cill Chomain), Ciara Whyte (Kilmoremoy), Kathryn Sullivan (Castlebar Mitchels); Niamh Kelly (Moy Davitts), Sinead Cafferkey (Kilmovee); Fiona McHale (Carnacon), Rachel Kearns (MacHale Rovers), Sarah Rowe (Kilmoremoy); Grace Kelly (Moy Davitts), Shauna Howley (Knockmore), Tara Needham (Louisburgh).

The above team shows two changes from the side that lost out to Armagh last time out. Into the first fifteen come Marie Corbett and Niamh Kelly, replacing Clodagh McManamon and Fiona Doherty respectively.

The best of luck to the Mayo team against the neighbours tomorrow.

  1. Absolutely terrible weather here in Castlebar. This game will be a scrap. Can’t see it being very high scoring. Probably under 25 points.

  2. Best of luck to our ladies today, great comeback win last time they played Galway. Team should be gelling at this stage so hoping to see further improvement.

  3. Conditions improved in last hour. Has helped. Game is much more open than I expected it to be when it was bucketing rain down.

  4. Very good first half from the ladies.
They could be another few ahead they have been so dominant.
Hopefully more of the same to come for the second half.

  5. Much better teamwork and support play than against Armagh. Rachel Kearns releasing the ball before running into traffic is another positive, in previous games she tried to do too much on her own, playing really well today though.

  6. Suppose he wants some more energy for last few minutes. Mayo should play keep ball for last couple of minutes.

  7. Great win for the women. Hit Galway hard and fast in the first half and it was enough. Got into the lead and never let it slip. Semi final now probably against Dublin.

  8. Super performance from the women, lots of hard running and great teamwork. Seemed to flag towards the end but they’d done enough to hold out for the win.

  9. Well done , enjoyed that . Worry would be they definitely sat back when having a very handsome lead and Galway got it down to a one score game from I think was a nine point lead at one stage .

Anyway congratulations and best of luck in semi final

  10. Congratulations to the ladies on a fine win and best of luck going forward. However they made it harder for themselves than it needed to be. Some bad shot selection and wild shooting nearly cost them. On the other hand the defending towards the end was outstanding.

  11. Well done to the Ladies. Great to hold out despite strong come back from Galway.

  12. Its just the Mayo way. Doesnt matter if its the men, women, underage. Mayo teams can be cruising along 7/8/9 points up and then all of a sudden be hanging on. hahaha. Makes it more exciting though.

  13. Great win and well done to the ladies. Really enjoyed that. A few top class performances there. They played it at 100 mph for the whole match. We left a few scores behind us but kicked some great points as well. Well deserved win I thought.

  14. Well done to the Mayo women deserved winners today.. Dublin will be our opposition, same as for the senior men’s game.. Dublin weren’t exactly impressive v Donegal, in a very physical game, mind you the Ref in the game was absolutely brutal, must have blown for frees well over 50 time’s..
