LGFA U14s storm to All-Ireland title success

It proved a very profitable trip to Tipp today for the Mayo LGFA U14 team as they comfortably beat Cork in the LGFA All-Ireland Platinum final at McDonagh Park in Nenagh. The Mayo girls clinched the title on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-7.

While this All-Ireland success was very much a team endeavour, the Stagg household had a huge impact on today’s win. Sinéad Stagg – herself an All-Ireland winner with Mayo at Senior level – manages the team and her daughter Emma bagged 2-4 this afternoon, in a performance that had a very significant bearing on the game’s outcome.

The goals came in what was a dominant opening half from Mayo and Cork were never able to get back into the contest after that. Our girls won at the finish by eight points.

Match report from Ladies Gaelic is here.

Congrats to the Mayo team and management on a super All-Ireland success.

  1. These young women are brilliant. Well done to you and hope you enjoy being All Ireland champions. Hopefully it’s the start of another strong period for women’s football in Mayo.

  2. Well Done girls! What a brilliant team!!
So impressed by the skill of these players!

  3. Brilliant stuff all year girls. Having to go all over the county for training 2 or 3 times a week in all kinds of weather takes some dedication for 12 and 13 year olds. We really do need a central training base for all ages of men and women.

  4. Comhghairdeas do na cailini. What a huge achievement at such a young age. Also, credit to the management team.
