LGFA U16 All-Ireland final on Saturday

Graphic: Mayo LGFA

The final Mayo team left standing this year is the LGFA U16s and they’re shooting for All-Ireland glory this coming Saturday. Their All-Ireland U16A Championship final against Cavan is fixed for Duggan Park, Ballinasloe, where throw-in on Saturday is 2pm.

Club members on Patreon who listened in to our Final Whistle show following last Sunday’s LGFA loss to Armagh (here) will have heard Sinéad Stagg providing some very informative background information ahead of Saturday’s title decider.

As Sinéad explained on the pod, it’s the first time Mayo have qualified for an All-Ireland U16A final since 1996, a team that had within its ranks the likes of Martha O’Malley, Nuala O’Shea, Claire Egan and Cora Staunton. The county’s current U16 panel – who face a Cavan side defending the All-Ireland title won at this grade last year – includes fourteen of last year’s All-Ireland-winning U14 team. They’re managed by Francis Regan and his backroom team includes Colin Doherty and Orla McHale.

If you fancy heading along to Ballinasloe to shout for the team in Saturday’s All-Ireland final, the ticket link for the game is here.

The very best of luck to the Mayo team in the big match on Saturday.

  2. And a nice link back to that ’96 team in that the current crop are captained by a niece of Nuala O’Shea from the ’96 team.

  3. Best of luck to the team on Saturday, hopefully they can bring some silverware home.

  4. Huge amount of good coaching being done at club level in both Mayo and Cavan .
Best of luck to Francis and the management team .
These are the type of people that can be involved in our senior team in the future..
I’d imagine Sinead herself would have ambitions in that regard too but lots of good coaches ,both men and ladies doing great work away from the spotlight.
Very best of luck to the girls
