Here, courtesy of TG4 via YouTube, is the live stream of this evening’s Connacht MFC semi-final between Mayo and Roscommon. The match throws in this evening at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park at 7pm.
I’ll have a match report here on the blog afterwards and we’ll have a Mayo Football Podcast Final Whistle show up on Patreon later on as well. Up Mayo!
Poi’s performance so far . Very flat
Roscommon 1-5 to 0-7 up HT. They look more lively so far, full value for the narrow lead they have. Their goal was poor from our perspective, their full-forward, Kilcline, tapped down a long ball and then finished it himself. We looked on top till then but Ros have been better since.
Too many bad wides and also turnovers from misplaced passes in attacking positions.
For the 5th game in a row we have been completely destroyed under high balls. A point down but if we can raise our game to it’s usual level we should still turn this around.
Lucky enough to be just 1 behind as i thought the three scored frees were rather soft awards.. Mayo 4-2 on the wide count no issue with the weather conditions tonight.
Is the score right?
Odd style of refereeing, we’ve got the rub of the green with him but I think he’s ridiculous in the over carry
Score is wrong on the TV roscommon award a point more. The ref is brutal
Ya they gave rossies a point for a mayo free
Ref has a bet on the rossies
Tom Lydon take a bow huge scores
Phew , ref was brutal for both sides , terrible stuff .
Cracking game of football, hard luck to the Rossies nothing between the teams.
Good game. Tom Lydon backs himself and wins a tight game.
Is Gerome Henry not a mayo man?
Got out of jail there. Mayo are packed with good footballers but seriously lacking in size and physicality. Had just about enough tonight but if those issues aren’t or can’t be addressed then I think we will struggle from here on. Still a win is a win I suppose.
Super second half. What a winner from Tom Lydon, his seventh point of the game. Young Rossies gave it everything, just came up short.
Where and when is the final on ? ???
Hard earned win and nice to go thro’. Our defensive frailties seem to run right thro’ all our grades. We don’t seem to tackle with as much intensity as other top teams.and seem to get opened up more easily. Lydon looks a real prospect and is some man to take a score-he is really good at making space for himself and getting into scoring positions. The referee’s application of the over-carrying rule was bonkers, considering what is let go an a regular basis at senior level.
Rossies will be kicking themselves to not claim at least extra time which they probably deserved and it’s worth noting they were without their top scorer after getting a red card against Sligo. A win is a win for Mayo the two goals in 5 minute period was hugely important and guaranteed at least another two games now.
Mayo Dec, Tuam next Friday, 7pm, as per tweet from Connacht Gaa
Not sure the heart has slowed down yet. Unbelievable kick from Lydon at the end to win it.
All sorts of issues and concerns to pick through from that but there’s something to be said being able to pull out a result like that when not having a great day. (That’s the biggest positive I can pull from it so I’ll stick with that over the weekend)
Great to see the lads have the opportunity of a Connacht Final and AIQF to show a bit more of what they can do, hopefully on a better day when it clicks a bit more.
Well done Mayo lads. You were much better when you went route one…quick and straight ball and trust the lads inside to get it and do the damage. Rossie’s shooting was very good but in fairness to Mayo, they kept plugging away.
Lots of room for improvement and a bit of self-belief would be a great thing!
Maigheo abu!!
Some great scores from both sides.Ros looked dead in the water only to get back into it.A tiny crowd looking to number more than a few hundred and a baffling ref for both sides.Galway raging favs next week.
Match report up and Final Whistle pod is up on Patreon now as well.
