As the countdown continues ahead of Mayo’s championship opener on Sunday over in New York, the Mayo News football podcast took to the road this week for a special live event episode recorded deep in the heart of the North Mayo Gaeltacht, at Gaelcholaiste Chomain in Rossport.
Co-hosts Rob Murphy and I were joined in Erris for this live event by Mayo News regulars Edwin McGreal and Ger Flanagan. Together we look ahead to Sunday’s match in Gaelic Park and assess how James Horan’s charges are shaping up in advance of another championship season.
Rob and I are then joined by two North Mayo stalwarts, Knockmore’s Nigel Reape and Ciaran O’Hara of Kiltane, whose media skills were also key to enabling the live event to happen. Nigel and Ciaran chat about the unique environment within which football in Erris flourishes and the local rivalries that make this part of the county so special.

Video coverage of the live event was streamed to the world from Rossport on the night via Facebook and is available to watch back at any time on YouTube – it’s here. The audio from the event is now available as a podcast episode and is available to listen to in the usual way on iTunes, SoundCloud, Podomatic and Spotify. You can also listen to it directly on the Mayo News website and here on the blog using the SoundCloud player below or the one in the panel on the right.
